As Mityana marks 20 years of existence, Deputy LC5 Chairperson Annie Miriam Nassali Lugendo has declared her intention to contest for the district’s top leadership position in the 2026 general elections.
Her announcement follows the decision by incumbent Chairperson Patrick Mugisha Nshimye to vie for the Mityana Municipality Parliamentary seat.
Addressing supporters during her campaign launch in Mityana Town, Nassali highlighted the district’s achievements in key sectors, attributing the progress to strong collaboration between local authorities, the central government, and development partners.
“Mityana has come a long way. Over the past 20 years, we have built schools, improved access to health services, and opened up roads that connect communities,” Nassali said.
“However, challenges such as limited funding, poor road networks, and inadequate health facilities still hold us back.”
Since its creation from Mubende, Mityana has been led by four district chairpersons — Deborah Kyazike Kinobe, Joseph Luzige, Joseph Musoke, and Patrick Mugisha Nshimye.
Nassali, who has served as Nshimye’s deputy, said she intends to consolidate the district’s development agenda while focusing on women and youth empowerment, improved accountability, and expanded service delivery.
Under the current administration, the district has undertaken the rehabilitation of feeder roads, construction of new classroom blocks, and upgrading of health centers across rural communities.
Nassali emphasized that such achievements reflect teamwork and inclusive governance.
“Our progress is a result of collective effort,” she said. “We have worked hand in hand with the central government and development partners to ensure that Mityana continues to grow.”
As the 2026 election season approaches, Nassali’s candidacy signals continuity with renewed emphasis on inclusive development and social transformation in one of Uganda’s fastest-growing districts.
